Colorado Desert, Flower/ShrubMix
Bioregional cover-USDA Ecological Sub Section 322Ag

Control wind erosion by providing a ground cover, while blending with native chaparral. Annual flowers for first year color and quick establishment with perennials, and low shrubs, all needing only one mowing year. Plant in the spring, irrigate the first summer to establish. Additional irrigation will prolong the blooming period.

It is a balanced blend of erosion controlling, decorative, low water use native grass, flowers and shrubs for revegetation of disturbed soil and slopes in the Lancaster, 322Ag subsection of California. There is a quick start annual legume to protect soil, and add nitrogen and organic matter yet allow slower perennials to do their permanent cover in years to come. The mix will require that some cost be allocated for initial maintenance which will be primarily weed control. This problem can be addressed chemically or culturally. The common cultural practice of mowing, fertilizing and irrigation has been used successfully in the establishment of perennial crops. Yearly mowing and fertilizing may be done depending on esthetics of owners.
