Soil PreparationTill, cultivate or scarify soil to roughen surface. Till only if soil is heavily compacted. Avoid turning up weed seeds. Insecta - Flora need no more than 1/8 to 1/4 inch planting depth. Weed ControlKill or remove aggressive plants and weed seed on or in the ground. Seeding TechniqueBlend Insecta - Flora seeds with inert carrier such as fine sand or vermiculite at a ratio compatible with your seeder for even distribution of the varying seed sizes. Coverage rate: 1.25 lbs per 5,000 square feet. For areas with a strong weed population, erosion problems or without supplemental water, seeding an additional 50 to 100 percent quantity of Insecta-Flora is recommended. Seed small areas by hand broadcasting. For large areas use cyclone-type seeder, manure spreader or grain drill. Seed small areas by hand broadcasting. For large areas use cyclone-type seeder, manure spreader or grain drill. Cover planted seeds to a depth of 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Lightly hand rake small areas. In large areas follow seeding with cultipacker or drag mat. Ensure soil is compacted for good seed-to-earth contact. Hydroseeding. On hills or poorly accessible areas hydroseed or hydromulch. Double seed application rate if one-pass hydroseeding is used since some seed will not make ground contact. Normal seeding application rate is possible if the first pass contains seed and 10 percent of the hydroseeding fiber. The second pass contains the remainder of the fiber. Seed within 45 minutes of mixing when hydroseeder pump is operating. Seed will be damaged if allowed to recirculate too long. After PlantingKeep Insecta - Flora seeds moist for 4 to 6 weeks using supplemental water if necessary to ensure maximum germination. Reduce water as planting becomes established. Emergence should occur in 2 to 3 weeks after planting. First flowers will show in 6 to 10 weeks. Extend blooming period in dry climates by using 1/2 inch of water per week. After the Bloom is GoneIn the late summer, once seed has set, mow the area to scatter ripe seed for the following year's growth. In the fall, supplemental seeding may be desired to establish a stronger, self-supporting growth. Special Mixes AvailableWildflower seed is available in bulk quantities and in custom site-specific formulations. Direct your questions to Albright Seed Company, P.O. Box 1275 |
