Beholden to No One But Our Customers

As an Independent Seed Distributor We Work for You
We do not write ads like this:

Now, you too can have the same Amazing Miracle Grass that was selected by NASA for planting on the Moon! Needs no water, air or sunlight. This grass thrives in sterile asteroid craters so just think of how spectacular it will look in your yard!

My score has improved since I planted Amazing Miracle Grass on my bowling ball
M. M. Racine, Wisconsin - Actual, unretouched comment from a satisfied customer.

You've seen the magazine ads for grass "developed by university scientists" that will stay green year-round in weather conditions from minus 20o F to the intense heat of summer. Sun, shade, any type soil, heavy traffic, with high disease and insect resistance.

Planting this stuff is easy, just "sprinkle the seed onto bare soil, then water."

So why are landscape contractors and turf managers working so hard to install and maintain turf when amazing miracle grass needs nothing but mowing after it has been sprinkled on bare ground and has sprouted—Fast! Fast! Fast!? It's because they understand a thing or two about plant biology and care—and because they have read the fine print that says optimum growing conditions for amazing miracle grass are the basis of all advertising claims. Makes one wonder if -20o F is optimal.

Reality Check

While these one-size-fits-all grass ads are good for a laugh, they serve to point out the high value independent seed distributors have to the green industries. At Albright Seed Company we're not beholden to our suppliers so we're free to give our best advice—not some company line. We first identify our clients' needs before suggesting a particular seed, product or technique. And we take advantage of our numerous sources—more than 30 turf seed suppliers in Oregon alone who offer hundreds of National Turf Evaluation Program quality-rated cultivars. And it isn't just commercial grass and other seed—we'll do custom collections of native plant species to meet specific requirements too.

Getting Choosey

Our interest is not in selling a few company brands, or trying to make whatever happens to be overstocked into today's hot buy, but in selling the best choice. And we offer one of the broadest ranges of choice in the industry. But a wide range of options alone isn't enough—unless you've got the savvy to make the right selection. With over 30 years' experience in the seed business, Paul Albright has the experience, knowledge and horse sense it takes to recommend the best approach in meeting your needs: landscape and sports turf, revegetation, erosion control, ornamentals. We're California seed experts and our reputation hinges on your satisfaction so we've got to be good to stay in business. We have our own soil scientist and we take advantage of industry trade shows, conferences and scientific papers to stay up with the latest technical developments. We stay abreast of the marketplace too—as a seed broker, it is a must.

Innovations

Our efficient operation and close work with our clients helps us to identify their needs and to create innovative products without the huge development costs associated with narrow-focus brands. Our products arise from practical necessity rather than some promotion department brainstorming session. One such original Albright product is Bed Spread—our pelletized mulch that is easy-spreading, effective and safe for workers to use because it avoids the respiratory dangers of organic dust toxic syndrome (ODTS) common with loose mulches.

The list of Albright innovations includes:

  • SPICE—a pelletized, aircraft-sowable revegetation planting system for remote or wilderness areas - See Spice
  • Living Channel Liner—riparian grasses pregrown in erosion control matting for instant watercourse stabilization - See Living Channel
  • Native revegetation seed mixtures customized for California bioregions - See Bioregions
  • TurboStart—microbial inoculant with mycorrhizal and trichoderma beneficial fungi to jump start plants. - See TurboStart

To deal with an independent seed distributor is to establish a relationship—a valuable partnership with knowledgable professionals who can ensure that the products and seed you purchase are not just right, but absolutely right for you.
