| © 2001 Wendy Dager The beneficial effect of micorrhizal fungi is manyfold. The micorrhizal fungi grow in the plants root cells or as a root sheath. The fungus filaments grow outward from the roots, penetrating into the surrounding soil. The effect is that the roots reach is extended, sometimes by as much as 1,000 times the length of the entire plant root system. These fungal extensions transport nutrients from the surrounding soil back to the host plant. But mycorrhizal fungi can be lost through soil sterilization, pesticide, and fungicide use, as well as flooding, construction grading or erosion. Thats why Paul Albright recommends you use AM 120 to help restore and reclaim the land by improving the survival of most native trees, shrubs and grasses. AM 120 provides the micorrhizal fungi that mines and absorbs moisture and nutrients from areas beyond the ends of the root tips. To order, call S&S Seeds at 1-(805) 684-0436.
